Taking landscape photography to another level...

Check out our new one-day workshops - Walking on Water - using the Ullswater steamers to explore Ullswater and surrounding hills.

We’re heading north, in September, to take part in the Arran Mountain Festival. It’s said, with good reason, that the island of Arran is “Scotland in miniature”. It’s certainly very photogenic, and we’ll be running workshops on September 18 & 19. For more details check out the festival’s website.

Some of our finest, most iconic landscapes are to be found in the North of England, attracting photographers to enjoy the matchless scenery, the changing light and the ‘four seasons in one day’ weather. It should be easy to take wonderful photographs in the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales. But all too often the photographs disappoint, failing to capture the drama of what you saw. It was a sunny day, the view looked fantastic... so what went wrong?

Our workshops, led by acclaimed landscape photographer, John Morrison, will help you to build on the skills you already have. You'll become a better, more creative photographer, making images that show not just what a landscape looks like… but what it feels like too...

Roly Smith, President of the Outdoor Writers Guild: "John is one of the best – and incidentally the funniest – photographers I’ve ever worked with, and that includes some of the best in Britain. His passion for photography and the landscape is unmatched, and his results always outstanding. He’s also one of those rare creatures in my experience, a snapper who can write as well. I’ve commissioned and edited quite a few of his books, and he’s a joy to work with. Anyone who books on one of his landscape photography workshops is in for a real treat". Thanks for this, Roly, your cheque's in the post.

Are the workshops for you? Check out the rest of the site, to help you decide. Who's who will tell you who we are, and who might benefit the most from the workshops. Read about the workshop venues in Yorkshire and Cumbria - Keld, Malham and Rydal - all chosen for their photographic potential, landscape qualities and comfortable accommodation. The calendar page provides a simple ‘at a glance‘ listing of workshops: dates, venues, prices and the number of places available.

The galleries feature John Morrison’s evocative photographs; see which are the most viewed. Check out the blog and tutorial pages, to get a better idea of what you can expect from the workshops. John also writes a humorous monthly column, for Cumbria magazine, about Hurlmere.

Contact us for more details, or phone John on 01539-443017 (mobile 07941-630420). Go here to book a workshop and find our terms and conditions.

Our promise…
After one of our workshops you’ll be a better, more creative, and more responsive photographer, with a new appreciation of light and landscape. The next level awaits…
